Specialised Certificate

The proposal

They main aim of the EAWOP proposal is to establish a specialised Certificate in W&O Psychology that can be obtained after a psychologist has received the “basic” European Certificate in Psychology (EuroPsy) and gained further competences in an W&O Psychology context.

The general aim of the certificate is to formulate standards that apply to all European psychologists working in the field of W&O psychology to guarantee a certain level of expertise and competence. A reason for this is the growing mobility of clients as well as psychologists, which makes it necessary to create tools for safeguarding client interests at a European rather than a national level.

Like EuroPsy, the specialised Certificate poses requirements to the academic education of psychologists as well as to the competences acquired during on-the-job learning, in professional practice. Thus, it combines an input model with an output model.

Input requirements: the academic curriculum must have a certain scope and duration. Guidance on this point is provided by the Reference Curriculum Model and Minimum Standards developed by ENOP-EAWOP in 2007.

Output requirements: In order to practice in the field of W&O psychology, the psychologist must have acquired certain competences beyond what was learned during academic study. Psychologists aiming to practice in the W&O field, for instance, should be competent in analyzing clients´ goals, making the appropriate kinds of assessment, developing required instruments, planning and carrying out appropriate interventions, and so on. Competencies are the same general categories used by EuroPsy but described in more specific terms in the context of work and organizations.
