Full professor position in organisational dynamics at Erasmus University

JOB DESCRIPTION
 

The full professor:

• Heads the steering group of the strategic pillar Organisational Dynamics in the Digital Society. As such she or he works towards expanded and sustainable research collaborations within and outside ESSB and has a leading role in developing a new multidisciplinary master program. Other contributions to the faculty’s strategy, for example regarding lifelong learning, research data management, and/or internationalisation, may be expected.

• Conducts (multi/inter-disciplinary) research in the broad field of Organisational Dynamics in the Digital Society (a structure report with a description of the field and expected developments is available upon request).

• Actively engages in acquiring external research funding, especially in collaborative grant schemes involving multiple ESSB researchers from different disciplines.

• Makes sure that her/his research and that of the broader strategic pillar has a positive public impact through different forms of valorisation.

• Attracts and supervises PhD students and other (junior) researchers.

• Takes up/is available for (other) managerial tasks within the ESSB.

• Performs teaching tasks, such as coordinating and (re)developing modules and supervising theses in the educational programs of ESSB, amongst which of course the new master program linked to the strategic pillar.

REQUIREMENTS
We are looking for candidates with:

Research:

- Experience and/or strong affinity with researching smaller organisations, (semi-)selfemployment, bottom-up proactive employee work behaviors, network organizations, and/or the digital/platform economy;

- Experience with theories and research methods from different disciplines such as psychology, sociology, and public administration;

- A PhD in Public Administration, Psychology, Sociology or a related field;

Education:

- Experience in coordinating educational programs;

- A senior teaching qualification (or at least a basis teaching qualification and willing to obtain the senior qualification);

- Ideally: experience in teaching/developing post-initial courses;

Academic outreach and valorisation:

- Willingness and the ability to further establish (internationally) the multidisciplinary field of the chair. For this the candidate publishes in multidisciplinary journals, joins related (existing) networks, and sets up small and multidisciplinary group meetings;

- A network and relevant experience enabling her/him to establish new connections with non-academic partners, preferably both in the public and private sector. Preferred partnerships include those with incubators (for start-ups), trade/sector associations (for Small and Medium Sized (SMEs) companies), and networks of smallscale entrepreneurs.

Acquisition:

- The proven ability to acquire research funding, especially on multidisciplinary themes, and preferably as (principal) investigator in larger networks. The focus of the chair will mainly be on collaborative research grants, working together with other (full and associate) ESSB professors;

Management:

- Managerial experience and the ability to head a steering group with the aim of increasing cross-disciplinary research and education as part of our ESSB strategy.

Other:

- A solid command of English (at a minimum level of C1, according to the Common European Framework – and preferably C2), both oral and written, and a solid command of Dutch or the willingness to learn Dutch at a basic working level in three years’ time. This will be facilitated.

- International experience and/or a clear international orientation, as well as a vision on international (research) cooperation and education.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Internationally-oriented and varied work within an enthusiastic team, with attractive fringe benefits in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO-NU). Your initial employment term will be for one year (with a two months trial period), but this may be converted into a permanent contract if your performance proves satisfactory. Employment starts preferably no later than June 1st 2019.

Salary is subject to know-how and experience and corresponds to scale H2 or H1 CAO NU, which is between € 5.582 and € 9.812 gross per month on a full-time basis (38 hour per week; 1.0 fte). Candidates for whom this would be the first appointment as full professor will start in scale H2.

Erasmus University Rotterdam offers attractive terms of employment, including a holiday allowance of 8%, a year-end payment of 8.3% and 41 annual leave days in case of a full work week. In addition, EUR takes part in the ABP pension scheme, and we also offer partially paid parental leave. For international spouses we have set up a dual career programme. Erasmus School of Social and Behavioural Sciences (ESSB)

The Erasmus School of Social and Behavioural Sciences is home to a vast diversity of scientific disciplines: public administration, pedagogical sciences, psychology and sociology. In addition, the Erasmus University College, IHS, and two research institutes RISBO and DRIFT are linked to the faculty. This also reflects in the content of the (international) bachelor's and master's programs and in research. Our activities are always focused on people and society. At the ESSB fundamental, internationally oriented research is of paramount importance. In addition, social research for professionals, policy makers, and the society is part of our research activities. ESSB offers a stimulating research environment where major national and international research grants are received. Position

Erasmus School of Social and Behavioural Sciences has launched a strategy for the period 2019-2022. Part of the strategy is to create/strengthen four multidisciplinary pillars by specifically investing in research and education in these fields. The pillars are:

Within the pillar of Organisational Dynamics in the Digital Society, a new chair is created.

Objective of the job

The full professor on this new chair has a pivotal role in realising our ambitions for the strategic pillar Organisational Dynamics in the Digital Society. The central aim is to boost existing research and education in this field (in our Psychology, Sociology, and Public Administration groups) by creating new connections, expanding research collaborations within and outside ESSB, and setting up a new master program.

For this, the chair will work in close cooperation with existing chairs and associate professors in work, organization and HRM from our Sociology, Psychology and Public Administration groups. The new chair will be heading a steering group consisting of the present professors in HRM in the Public Sector and Work and Organisational Psychology, and key co-workers. Together with the chair, the steering group will be responsible for accomplishing the ambitions of the strategic pillar Organisational Dynamics in the Digital Society.

The ideal candidate is an internationally renowned scholar on themes related to new forms of work and organisation. The candidate has knowledge of both public and private organizations, and can comfortably move between the disciplines of Public Administration, Sociology, and Psychology. She or he shares our ambition to build bridges between these disciplines. The candidate is able to integrate findings from different fields, has a personality that can bring people together, and strongly believes in the added value of multidisciplinary research and education.

The new chair will report directly to the Dean of ESSB for the duration of the strategic period. There is budget available within the strategic pillar, for example for hiring an assistant professor. We are also in the process of hiring a postdoc (for two years) in this field.
